These pages...
...try to give some more information about illegal pressings (counterfeits) of Porcupine Tree CDs.
Where?
Pages on this site will give you more information, click...
- Details to view details about the original and fake releases of most Porcupine Tree albums. Differences in artwork and matrixnumbers are shown.
- Fraud for information about fraud especially on auction sites.
- Links for additional information found on other places on the World Wide Web.
Why?
A lot of counterfeit CDs are being sold. You will usually not notice the difference at first sight, the copies are very good! But... in fact the music and artwork are stolen, replicated and sold again without any money going to the band! To warn you about that, you can find some information here about how to identify counterfeit CDs.
How?
It can be very hard to see if the CDs are genuine or not, but if you look at details you can identify them:
- Look for differences in the artwork. In most cases the artwork of the counterfeits is slightly different from the original. Many Porcupine Tree release do not have any text on the cover where most of the counterfeit release have added text.
- Look for the matrix numbers on the inner side of the CD itself: counterfeits usually have just one small number instead of more numbers, logo's and barcodes. View the example to learn what matrix numbers are and where to find them...
So...
...be very careful when you buy an album, always ask the seller if the CDs are original releases. Even the "Used CDs" via Amazon can be fakes!
